How to Choose Your Wedding Flowers

How to Choose Your Wedding Flowers

As you’re planning out all of the little details of your wedding, one of the decisions you’ll have to make will concern your wedding flowers. Some people know exactly what they want, but if you’re like most people, you’re probably struggling a bit. Thankfully, we’ve put together some basic tips that will help you get through the process pain-free.

Do your homeworkHow to Choose Your Wedding Flowers

Before you sit down with a florist, you should try to figure out what you like and don’t like. Look through Pinterest for some inspiration, and then familiarize yourself with the names of the flowers you like. Knowing the flower lingo will help when you finally sit down with your florist and start brainstorming ideas for your wedding.

Use your venue

The décor of your wedding should go with the venue; this includes your flowers. For example, if your wedding is more rustic you could opt for wildflowers, but if it’s more formal then orchids or white hydrangea would work better. And whether your wedding will be outdoors or indoors will have an impact. As a rule of thumb, outdoor weddings need less flowers, especially if you’re holding it at a botanical garden, while indoor weddings need more.

…And your color scheme

To help you narrow down on your choices, keep your color scheme front and center as you look through possible floral options. They don’t have to be an exact match, but you should try and get flowers that complement the colors in your venue and the rest of your décor. When you talk with your florist, bring in some fabric samples and photos to help them find complementing colors.

Budget it out

Your budget will determine what kinds of flowers and how many you buy. Flowers take up about 10% of your total wedding budget, so keep that in mind as you’re looking through Pinterest boards or talking with your florist.
