We often think of fresh flowers as something we enjoy or buy for special occasions. Birthdays, Mother’s Day, Valentine’s Day, and so on. But flowers can make any day feel special; and there are many counselors who tout the effectiveness of having fresh flowers and plants around you to lift your spirits.
Fresh flowers symbolize many things; abundance, beauty, happiness, inspiration, and well-being. One single rose can say, “I love you forever.” But we don’t need to wait for Valentine’s Day to give the gift of a single fresh flower to our loved ones, or to ourselves. A single flower can make an average Wednesday seem unique and special.
Many years ago, media mogul Oprah Winfrey, told a story about how she brought abundance and joy into her everyday life when she was making very little money. She shared that many times, she had such little money, she had to scrape up pennies off her car floor to get enough money for gas. But she knew that if she didn’t find a way to feel abundant and joyful; her situation would never change. So she instinctively thought to always save a few dollars to buy fresh flowers for her dinner table. Even if she could only afford one flower on any particular day, she made it happen. And often her table was dressed with one bright sunflower.
Never underestimate what the presence of fresh flowers can do for your mood. It is natural for human beings to respond to color and fragrance. And the beautiful thing about the fragrance of flowers, is that the longer you have them, the fragrance intensifies. It’s fun and magical to buy a few flower buds that are closed, and allow them to grow and open in your presence.
For the value that fresh flowers and plants can add to your daily life; they really don’t cost a lot of money. You can choose a dozen pink roses, or one single beautiful bright sunflower, as Oprah did many years ago. Either way, your day will be enhanced by the beauty and splendor of nature; If you simply open your heart, and allow it to happen.
You don’t need a lot of money to brighten your day; just stop by your local florist shop and give yourself the gift of a single red rose. Or hop on the Internet, and order a bouquet, or two; one for a good friend, and the other for you.
